1. Translate Web Pages

Click the Translate button on the Sunda Web toolbar to translate the web page you are currently viewing (Fig. 1). Alternatively, you can select "Translate page with Sunda Web" from the context menu of your web browser. The formatting of the web page is retained during the translation. Texts inside pictures, videos or animations are not translated. In addition, text content generated by browser scripts or inside HTML frames may not be translated.

To choose the language pair of the translator, select "Language pair" in the Settings menu (see image). If you have access to both translation directions (English-Finnish and Finnish-English), it is recommended to choose Auto-Selection because then the translator automatically selects the language pair based on the source text.

If you want to translate a certain text section on a web page, first select the text section and then click the Translate button or select "Translate with Sunda Web" from the browser context menu (Fig. 2).

You can listen to the translation result or source text by clicking the speaker button in the lower left corner of the translation result window.

2. Text Translation Window

Click the Settings button on the Sunda Web toolbar and choose "Open translation window" to open a window for translating short texts (Fig. 3). Alternatively, you can select "Open translation window - Sunda Web" from the browser context menu.

Type the text to be translated and click 'Translate'. Use Copy & Paste to bring text from another window. If you want to listen to the translation result, click the speaker button .

3. Quick Translation Mode

The Quick Translation mode allows you to translate a sentence on a web page by clicking the sentence. You can activate this feature by choosing "Enable Quick Translation" in the Settings menu (see image). The translation result is shown in a popup window (see image).


4. Translation Settings and Special Dictionaries

By clicking the Dictionaries button on the Sunda Web toolbar and choosing "Select dictionaries" you can open a dialog for selecting special dictionaries and translation settings. Using correct special dictionaries can improve translation quality. The translator contains ready-made special dictionaries such as Economy & Trade and Information Technology. See Chapter 5 for creating user dictionaries.

5. User Dictionaries

User dictionaries allow you to customize the translator in order to produce more accurate translations. You can create and edit user dictionaries with the Dictionary Editor. To open the editor, click the Dictionaries button on the Sunda Web toolbar and choose "Edit dictionaries". You need to have a Workstation, Enterprise or Pro License in order to create user dictionaries.

You can add words to a user dictionary directly from the current web page by clicking the Dictionaries button on the Sunda Web toolbar and choosing "Add word". If you have selected a word in the web page, it will be set automatically as the source word.


6. Program Settings

Click the Settings button on the Sunda Web toolbar to open the Settings menu. Choosing "General settings" opens a dialog (Fig. 6) for handling general program settings. If you select the "Open translated page in a new window" checkbox in this dialog, the translation of a web page is opened in a new browser window or tab. If you click the Translate Page button in the context menu, the translation result is always opened in a new window.

Note! A pop-up blocker in your web browser may prevent new browser windows from opening automatically.

Selecting the "Enable quick translation" checkbox activates the Quick Translation mode which allows you to translate a sentence on a web page by just clicking the sentence (see Chapter 3).

7. User Login

When you use Sunda Web for the first time, you will be asked to enter your username and password (Fig. 7). If you want to log in with a different username afterwards, choose "Log in" from the Settings menu.

If you are using Sunda Web with Mozilla Firefox, cookies must be enabled in your web browser.
